Benicio del Toro narrates film on El Yunque
The 15-minute long "A Journey to a Tropical Rain Forest" will highlight the history, resources and environmental importance of El Yunque, the only tropical rainforest within the U.S. forest system.
A Spanish-language version of the film is narrated by Puerto Rican actor David Ortiz.
The short film, which was produced by María Falcón and the Geoambiente del Caribe company, will premier at the theater within the El Portal visitors center near the entrance to El Yunque on Saturday.
"I truly believe that everyone who sees this new movie will not only enjoy it, but will leave here with a better understanding about the ecology of El Yunque and its great significance for the world patrimony," El Yunque Supervisor Pablo Cruz said.
The U.S. Forest Service official urged people to come out and enjoy the rainforest.
"This summer, bring the family to see this new movie, enjoy the exhibitions at El Portal about its nature and patrimony and then head out to try the different forest trails," Cruz said.
El Portal, located on PR-191 in Río Grande, is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
