It's been such a drought of roles for us to see him in and now we can look forward to both a serious, controversial role and a purely entertaining/horror role. Yikes, we will truly be in Heaven.

Posts: 1554 (March 18, 2006 08:32) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I was just looking for the original Wolf Man in my local Blockbuster, and they don't seem to carry it, in horror, sci-fi, or drama. (But I did see a couple of copies of Huevo's, under that title!! I just checked with Amazon, and it looks like they have some nice new copies. The one I got a year or so ago, titled Golden Balls, was all grainy.) But anyway, the Amazon site has some nice descriptions of the classic Wolf Man, and the setting is actually Wales, which makes me think of how much Benicio looks like Catherine Zeta Jones. Key casting choices are the father, the love interest, and the old gypsy woman. Apparantly, one unique feature of the original is the sympathetic nature of the characterization. Can't wait to find a copy of the film.

Well, she is beautiful, and we all think he is, so what the heck. I saw this movie back when I was in grade school...with my older brothers. They had me convinced that werewolves and vampires were real. It was years before I had a good nights sleep. Can't wait to see Beni as the Wolfman. I have wished for so long...How I wish for you today.

Chaney Jr. was tall, beefy, and sweet like Benicio. He was also a fairly aggressive flirt, and tormented by the tragedy that eventually happens to him. His werewolf stayed on two legs and kept his clothes on, losing only his shoes. The relationship with the father is an important part of the story. There are definite similarities to the Hunted storyline. They used a lot of psychology to try to explain the werewolf phenomenon. I hope they keep the setting in Wales, and not England, just because it needs a setting where people keep reciting the poem about werewolves, and it seems more romantic to me. I guess there were gypsy camps in England as well, but it seems like it would be more mythical in Wales. The story and the effects are really no less fanciful than the HBO Carnival series. It seems the werewolf legends are ancient, and for a film, keeping the clothes on solves the awkwardness of the story when the werewolf is killed and the body returns to human form. How would the naked man running through the woods be explained?

Romanek is going to make Benicio Del Toro howl at the moon in Andrew Kevin Walker's THE WOLFMAN!!! Hey folks, Harry here... In recent days we've had a lot of fanboy disappointment. Bad news on beloved projects turning from wet dream to clean-up on aisle 7. Well - today - a project that I've been VERY JAZZED ABOUT... Andrew Kevin Walker's THE WOLFMAN - the Victorian Period retelling of the classic Lon Chaney Jr THE WOLFMAN... starring Benicio Del Toro as Larry Talbot... well - it got its director... MARK ROMANEK. You probably know Romanek from his amazing Music Video work - or the too few of you that saw his wonderful ONE HOUR PHOTO... you know him from that. Over the last 3 years, I've gotten to know Mark Romanek quite well. We keep similar hours on AIM - and in numerous IM conversation he's exhibited quite the disdain for CG. Mark is an old school director - professing a desire to make films that are captured by a lens capturing the light and shadow in front of it. I am SO happy at this reveal from Universal. It shows a real vision, by going with a director that absolutely keeps it real. From reading Andrew's script - I can't help but think that this will be an R-rated affair - and with Mark directing Benicio... I imagine the torment and torture of this cursed soul to be laid bare on screen... and I hope the transformation will be practical. I'm going to try to get Mark to talk with AICN soon about this. Because this is the most exciting Horror project out there for me right now. An A-list horror film that is classic, violent and sexy without being just a nonsensical mess of CG. I didn't particularly care for One Hour Photo but then I'm not a Robin Williams fan. I do like Romanek's video work from the 90s. Particularly Nine Inch Nails' Closer. He does have the gift for distinct visual tone.

This director sounds like he will try to make this old classic much like the ones made in the 40's; the pre-CG era. This should be quite a year for Beni with work. The studio will release graphic novel adaptation Wanted, starring James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman, on March 28, 2008. The movie is currently in that spot by itself. Universal has moved The Incredible Hulk away from Disney/Pixar's WALL E and up two weeks to June 13, 2008. There is also no competition on that date yet. On July 11, 2008, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are expected to return for The Mummy 3. It is currently scheduled up against Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder, which DreamWorks also just moved into that spot. A week later, on July 18, the studio has put Mamma Mia!, the big screen version of the musical to star Meryl Streep. It will face Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight. Sequel Hellboy 2: The Golden Army has been targeted for August 1, 2008 with no competition yet. Then, on November 14, 2008, Universal is looking to release The Wolfman, starring Benicio Del Toro.
